INTO THE LIGHT...

"The Aging Generalist," my beloved blog, went dark (literally and figuratively) four years ago come Wednesday. And  I, pretty much, followed suit. Today, despite the Pandemic, but clinging tightly to the promise of effective vaccines, I'm determined to step out of my comfort zone (wearing a mask, of course) to make sure that everything in this country is still functioning. My 'stepping out' will be virtual of course. I'm not crazy.

I am very much looking forward to the Biden/Harris Inauguration. I'm planning on an uplifting speech because, right now, I don't know about you, but I badly need an uplifting speech. Actually, from where I sit, the whole country needs an uplifting speech. If I had my choice, it would be a calm uplifting speech. I've missed those over the past few years. If there is one thing  Joe does well, it's using his calm voice to tell us that we will all  be OK. And we will be OK because Joe believes that we are fully able to rise to the occasion. He trusts that we will be helpers both at home and abroad. Joe brings out the best in us. And, we very much need that.

I must admit I don't know Kamala well. I do love that the family children call her Mamala, and that makes her laugh.  She plays the Step Mom part in a blended family--a role I have also owned, which explains the special place in my heart for her. In all honesty she wasn't my first choice for VP, but I'm definitely warming up to her. And, at this point in time, I would call it a perfect choice on many levels.

I'm carefully leaving Donald Trump out of this post. My understanding is that he will fly to Mar A Lago early on Wednesday morning, hours before the Inauguration. In normal times, the out-going President would  already have invited the incoming President and family to the White House for a welcoming tour. That has not happened. It's a breach of etiquette but, I believe, the Biden's will overlook the snub. That's one of the things I like about them.

So, tomorrow morning, I will be putting on my mask to make a quick trip to the grocery store for a bit of champagne and upscale snacks. That would not be my usual order, but it's been a long four years, and I intend to celebrate.

God bless us, everyone...
